ALPINA B7 TURBO

Alpina was founded in the 60s by Burkard Bovenseipen which at this time was specialised in the BMW 1500 tuning, he elaborated a performance kit which brought the power around 100HP. Later in the 60s and 70s Alpina got involved in motor racing preparing 3.0 CSLs to be raced in ETCC. In the end of the 70s Alpina turned its back to motorsport to focus on BMW road cars tuning. The very first B7 Turbo appeared in 1980, based on a 3.0 engine it was a very powerful car but turbo technology was not yet mastered. In 1983 BMW launched the 2nd Series from the famous 6 Coupe, Alpina then completely re-engineered the B7 with a very sophisticated Turbocharger system, engine management and 3.5 engine. The chassis, brakes, suspension and cooling were also completely reworked to match with the new performance level. Launched in 1984 the all new B7 Turbo was by far the quickest four seater on the market with 330 HP and 52 mkg of torque, it was able of 275km/h as top speed and accelerate in only 24.5sec from start to 1000m. The most impressive thing is though being as fast as a Testarossa it was still a comfortable car and a real daily driver. With adjustable power from 240 to 330 HP it was possible to preserve Turbo and engine, but also to cool the driving on rainy days. It will remain the most charismatic Alpina ever built and the most fabulous 4 seater built in the 80s. The B7 Turbo will be a highly collectible in the next decades, only 110 were built.

This B7 Turbo serial number “0015” made its first appearance at famous show “Salon de Paris” in October 1984 exhibited on Alpina’s stand, few days later it was used in the famous French Magazine “Auto Hebdo” for an impressive 9 pages article. It was sparely used by its first owner in Paris until 1987, then acquired by second owner who kept it until he passed away in 2005. It was bought by a BMW collector after a very long storage period, who ordered a very large service and a cosmetical restoration to make the car “as new” with no expenses spared, more than 10 000 € of new parts were ordered from Alpina and BMW. Alpina even supplied the paint, which is a specific colour to this car. In the meantime, suspension, brakes, engine, pumps, clutch were overhauled. It can only be described as being in “as new” condition, only 3000km were done since which brought the total kilometerage to 93000km.
