ASTON MARTIN DB4 MKIII
The make Aston Martin was created in 1913, until the 40s it became famous by building light and very quick four cylinders sport and race cars. David Brown in 1947 bought and brought it back to life with the launch in 1950 of the famous DB serial. They became the emblematic English sport cars, indeed the DBs were the best sport cars of their time. After a long involvement in racing, Aston Martin Le Mans in 1959 with Caroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori with a DBR1. The DB2 and DB3 were excellent cars in their time but in 1958 the 2.9 engine was outdated in terms of power. Aston Martin incorporated in the new DB4 all of the knowledge acquired in motor racing with the DB3S and DBR1. The engine size was increased to 3.7 liter and 245 HP then in the mean time it also received : rack and pinion steering, assisted disc brakes, coil springs to the rear and much work was done to the suspension. The bodywork was designed by Touring and the building retained the “Superleggera” proceed which is made of a steel tube frame with an all aluminium body. The new Aston Martin was launched in 1958 at the London Motor Show and made sensational debuts. It was able of 225 km/h and prompt accelerations, driving was much more easy than on the DB3, handling and road holding being excellent. The DB4 was a big success for Aston,1100 units were built until 1963 and declined in 5 series, actually the 5 years of production without major changes. It should be noted as an important step in the Aston Martin history, that the DB4 is the first model to be built at the company's Newport Pagnell works. This is a fabulous and iconic car and most probably the best sport car from its time.
