DODGE VIPER CC GT2
Only 2 cars built
The Viper GTS-Rs are from the most successful GT race cars ever built having won at Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring, FIA-GT, ALMS and many national championships in more than 5 years of domination. In 2001 Chrysler who unfortunately stopped the new GT1 project decided to build a new race car, the “Competition Coupe” to compete in a newly created Viper Challenge Championship in 2003. Later in 2006, the car received homologation from the FIA to compete in GT3 class and immediately revealed its speed. In the meantime Oreca thought the GT3 would be a great basis to build a very competitive GT2 car but Dodge was not interested with getting involved in the project. However Oreca was asked by Racing Box ( famous Italian race team ) to design and build two GT2s to be raced in GT Open in 2007 in a first step. After a lot of work on re-engineering the GT3, Oreca built two cars between January and March 2007. The light GT2 has a reinforced chassis, engine and driveline lower and more at the back, dry sumping, Hollinger Sequential Gearbox, harder springs, Moton shocks, Quaife differential, pedal box and adjustable bias, Magnetti-Marelli Management, high down force carbon splitter, floors and diffuser, plus many other extras. The cars debuted in GT Open and were much quicker than the GT3 cars, unfortunately due to a sponsor defection, the cars weren’t raced after the second round and putted into storage. The two cars were sold in 2008 to a Dutch team to be raced in the Dutch Supercar Challenge and were extremely quick. In 2011 the Viper GT2 lead the championship and beated three Corvette GT1s and many Ferrari & Porsche GT2.
