Model history

The Countach born with the concept car « LP500 » in 1971, actually a kind of revolution in the car history being the very first « cubic » car designed, it also figured another world « Première » receiving a longitudal gearbox in from of the engine. The production version received the nickname « Countach » after a northern Italian’s slang that means «  extraordinary », was launched in 1974 and designated as « LP400 ». It was a very powerful 1400kg and 375HP car which instantly got out of fashion the entire car production then. In 1978 and updated version appeared with a massive aero kit and larger tracks & tires. Unfortunately the perfomance decreased and at this time Lamborghini lived its worst days suffering low sales and strikes. In 1981 the Mimran brothers ( Swiss bankers ) bought the company and decided to re-engineer the Countach, improving performance, handling and reliability, the new model called « LP5000s » had a 5,2liter engine, was an immediate success and it probably saved the make. In 1985 to enhance the performance and quality a bit further as a reaction to Ferrari’s new super car « Testarossa », the « Quattrovalvole » version appeared with no less than 450HP. For most of the Lamborghini connoisseurs this is the very best Countach built with real power, handling and reliability. Indeed last version appeared in the end of 1988 called 25th Anniversary, was actually outdated, notably due to its debatable looking.
